UNDERSTANDING ATATURK

Every year since 2009, we have organized an excursion with our 8th grade students following the tracks of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during the War of Independence. To follow in his footsteps, various trips were organized to İstanbul, where the founder of our country received his education and where our Western Front battlefields, İnanus-Eskişehir- Sakarya- Kütahya- Dumlupınar, were conducted. We also organized trips to Sivas- Amasya- Havza- Samsun, where congresses were held and to Ankara, where parliamentary activities were implemented. Students shoot videos in these cities and prepare documentary presentations to share with their peers. In May, all studies are shared among the students in other levels involved in the activity of “Understanding Atatürk”

TRIPS

The year-round trips are planned at the beginning of the academic year at each grade level. The organized trips leave permanent memories in the learning experiences of students and contribute to increasing their awareness towards their environment and country.

Within the scope of the Social Studies Curriculum, for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8, excursions are organized on a topic that is appropriate to the curriculum. On visits, our students have the chance to learn by hands on experience on the topics taught in the lessons. The curriculum includes visits to places outside Ankara where historical artifacts belonging to the Western Front of the War of Independence, İnönü Battlefields, Seljuks and the Ottoman State are included. The activities and tasks conducted from these are then used as course material.

WORKSHOPS WITH NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS (NGOs)

In line with Social Studies courses, NGO employees (Consumer Rights Association, SERCEV, Informatics Association, Turkish Education Volunteers Foundation, TEMA Foundation and Turkish Intelligence Organization) are invited to our school. Our 5th grade students are enabled to better understand what effective citizenship is and become more familiar with the actions of non-governmental organizations while comprehending their aim. Bringing together volunteers from mixed classes with NGO employees, various tasks such as empathy, drama and banner making are accomplished inside and outside the classroom.
