COMPETITION FOR THE PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF MATHS MATERIAL (MATEMAKET)
‘MATEMAKET’ is a competition designed to promote and develop innovative ideas for math related workshops. It is promoted by METU DF schools to allow students to see the relativity of mathematics in a different way. This is carried out using latest skills in research, problem solving, strategy development, inquiry, creativity, critical thinking, production and cooperation.
PI DAY
On World Pi Day, our students prepare short films with given topics using technology and creativity. The aim is to make students feel that mathematics is not just a subject, but a necessity that we often use, to solve the problems we face in everyday life.
MATHEMATICS LEAGUE
Mathematics league is an interdisciplinary competition that allows students to use 21st century skills in creativity and development strategies. This competition requires one to use their physical abilities for completing math activities. Students will have the opportunity to reinforce the mathematic topics they have learnt while they are competing on these tracks.
BRAIN TEASER CLUB
A club where students are taught games to develop fast, analytical, and three-dimensional thinking abilities by putting into practice the basic skills they have already gained during their previous mathematics and geometry classes. Students who are preparing for the National Brain Teaser competition have the opportunity to discover the fun side of mathematics.
National Competitions
TUBITAK NATIONAL MATHEMATIC OLYMPICS
TUBITAK organizes the Annual National Mathematic Olympics in order to encourage high school students to conduct research in Mathematics and to contribute to the development of students in these fields. Not only are the students guided by highly trained Olympic math teachers, but also by a curriculum implemented through extra classes to represent our school in the best possible way.
TUBITAK MATHEMATICS PROJECT COMPETITION
TUBITAK organizes math project competitions every year in order to encourage high school students to study the field of Mathematics and to help identify innovative and creative students. Every year willing and talented students participate in these competitions at a national level with a systematic approach under the guidance of their teachers.
International Competitions
ATLANTIC-PACIFIC MATHEMATICS LEAGUE
The Atlantic- Pacific Mathematics League is one of America’s prestigious international competitions. METU students have the opportunity to compete with other students around the world using algebra, geometry and trigonometry skills.
PURPLE COMET MATH MEET
Purple Comet Math Meet is an International Mathematics competition organized by the Mathematical Association of America and Awesomemath learning platform. The students who take part in this challenge will find the opportunity to compete with students from Turkey and students from different parts of the world.
URFODU
URFODU – International Science Foundation Information Competition is a competition organized to discover students’ innovative abilities and develop their interest in Science research activities.
IDES (Advanced Tutorials)
This program is implemented for academically successful students. The objective of this course is to ensure that our students are successful in national or international competitions and exams. Classes are designed to re-emphasize topics already covered in previous classes in more detail.
DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
Development studies are especially for year 9 students and taught two hours a week. The aim of these courses are to advance student learning by problems solving, working though supplementary resources to reinforce new knowledge.
Lunch Break Tutorials
These tutorials are intended for students who have difficulty in understanding material covered in class and to assist students with their studies.
